Cherry Juice Reduces Muscle Damage

Eric October 11, 2011

A recent study done by a London South Bank University found that cherry juice accelerated recovery after intense strength exercise.  Subjects performed 10 sets of 10 knee extensions with heavy weight and found that those who had taken cherry juice were able to recover more quickly with less soreness.  They speculated that chemicals in cherry juice, such as flavonoids and anthocyanins, prevented muscle oxidative damage and inflamation associated with excercise recovery.  This is important for anyone doing any intense exercise including marathoners, bodybuilders, etc.  (Medicine Science Sports Exercise, 43: 1544-1551, 2011)
