Supplement Vitamin D to Strengthen Your Immune System

Everyone knows that Vitamin D is necessary for bone health, but many people don’t realize that it’s also important for a properly functioning immune system.  Vitamin D is what activates your T-cells and takes them from a dormant state to an active state, where they seek out foreign viruses and bacteria in the body.

Vitamin D is consumed in the diet in meat products or fortified foods, but is also produced by the body via a reaction to sunlight.  During winter, when your body sees the least amount of sun, make sure you’re getting your Vitatin D through either fortified foods, meat, or supplement sources so that your immune system stays strong.  Several studies have also found a link between low levels of Vitamin D and an increased risk of cancer.
